State Park Overview

This 1,000-acre park features outstanding rock outcroppings and views of the Foothills and Blue Ridge mountains. Rhododendron, mountain laurel and other mountain vegetation can be found along the streams in the park.

A museum tells the story of the Cherokee Indians who once roamed this area and their relationship with the European settlers of South Carolina.

A large rental cabin in a wooded area features an upper deck porch overlooking Lake Keowee and a private floating courtesy dock.

Other facilities include picnic areas with shelters, a campground, lake fishing and trails.

Nature Programs

Education Center The park museum includes displays on the history and culture of the Cherokee Indians and the story of their relationship with European settlers of South Carolina.

The center also includes limited souvenir items.

Hours of operation Memorial Day to Labor Day Wednesday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Monday & Tuesday the museum is open form 11 a.m. to noon & 4 to 5 p.m.

From September to May the museum is open daily from 11 a.m.noon & 45 p.m.

General Directions Twelve miles northwest of Pickens at the intersection of SC 133 and SC 11 at Lake Keowee.
