General Burnside Island State Park

State Park Information

State Park Overview

General Burnside Island State Park was named for the sideburn-whiskered Civil War general Ambrose Burnside. Burnside led patrols along the Cumberland River, circling this 400-acre island while on the look out for Confederate soldiers.

Today, the waters of Lake Cumberland are more placid its a peaceful retreat for campers, boaters, golfers and fishermen alike. A marina near the park has all the supplies youll need for a great day on the lake, and the campground is the perfect home base for outdoor adventure. The biggest challenge to visitors these days may be the 18-hole golf course its fun, but certainly not hazard-free!
