In the mid-19th century, settlers found Bennett Spring to be an ideal spot for grist and flour mills. Today, most people come to Bennett Spring State Park to struggle with the rainbow trout, or just to marvel at the 100,000,000 gallons of clear, cool water that gush from the spring each day.
The spring valleyonce a popular camping ground for farmers waiting for their grain to be ground at the millstill attracts visitors interested in camping, hiking and canoeing. A Bennett Spring "hike" can be a leisurely stroll along the tree-shaded spring branch, or an invigorating seven miles to tour an interesting natural tunnel. Those looking for less rugged pleasures will enjoy the rental housekeeping cabins, the public swimming pool and the parks rustic dining lodge.
Fishing enthusiasts will be found casting their lines along the spring branch, while others visit the exhibits interpreting Missouris springs and natural environment at the nature center. Now, at 3,216 acres, the state park that arose around Peter Bennetts spring continues to delight all comers. |
Camping |

Bennett Spring State Park has five campgrounds and offers basic, electric, and sewer/electric/water campsites. Services available include reservable sites, a dump station, showers and laundry. Water is available April 15 through Oct. 15.
Campground 1 is open year-round. Campgrounds 2, 3, 4 and 5 are closed November through Feb. 24.
For reservations, there is a required minimum stay for weekends and major holidays from May 15 through Sept. 15. |
Boating |

Canoe Rental
Canoes and rafts are available for rent on an individual or group basis for float trips on the Niangua River. Reservations can be made beginning in April for trips starting the second week in May at the earliest. The season typically runs from Memorial Day to the second weekend in September. Float trips are available every day of the week except for Wednesdays. Beginning the first day of September, float trips are limited to Saturday and Sunday only.
Ho Hum is a nine-mile float trip lasting four to five hours. Weather permitting, the trip departs every day of the week except for Wednesday at 830 a.m., 930 a.m., 1030 a.m. and 1130 a.m.
Rafts depart at 830 a.m., 930 a.m. and 1030 a.m. only.

From St. Louis
Bennett Spring State Park is 161 miles from the I-270 and I-44 interchange the trip will take about 3 hours 15 minutes depending on traffic. Go west on I-44 for 148 miles to Exit 129 you are now in Lebanon. At the top of the off ramp, turn right onto Hwy. 5 /Hwy. 32. Stay straight on Hwy. 5 for 1.5 miles, until you reach the intersection of Hwy. 64 and Hwy. 5. Go straight on Hwy. 64 for 10.5 miles then turn left on Hwy. 64A. Travel for one mile until reaching the state park.
From Kansas City
Bennett Spring State Park is 178 miles from Arrowhead Stadium the trip will take about 4 hours 45 minutes depending on traffic. Drive east on I-70 for 68 miles to Exit 78A. Go south on U.S. Hwy. 65 for 90 miles to the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 65 and Hwy. 64 at the village of Louisburg. Turn left on Hwy. 64 and drive for 17 miles then turn right on Hwy. 64A. Travel for one mile until reaching the state park.
From Jefferson City
Bennett Spring State Park is approximately 95 miles from Jefferson City and should take about 2 hours 15 minutes depending on traffic. Drive west on U.S. Hwy. 54 for 58 miles to the town of Camdenton. Turn left onto Hwy. 5 and go 25 miles to the town of Lebanon. Turn right on Hwy. 64 and drive 10.5 miles then turn left on Hwy. 64A. Travel for one mile until reaching the state park.
From Springfield
Bennett Spring State Park is approximately 63 miles from Springfield and should take 1 hour 30 minutes depending on traffic. Drive east on I-44 for 51 miles to Exit 129 stay in the left turn lane on the exit ramp. You are now in Lebanon. Turn left onto Hwy. 32/Hwy. 5 and stay straight on Hwy. 5 for 1.5 miles, until you reach the intersection of Hwy. 64 and Hwy. 5. Go straight on Hwy. 64 for 10.5 miles then turn left onto Hwy. 64A. Travel for one mile until reaching the state park. |
